North Carolina bans cryptocurrency donations for political campaigns

State authorities took the measure in view of the fact that digital currencies are difficult to control in the financing of electoral processes

The state of North Carolina banned funding and donations in cryptocurrencies for political campaigns. The main reason has been the difficulty represented by the control of digital currency.

The candidates for the electoral contests are prohibited from receiving any type of financing in Bitcoin and the rest of the digital currencies. This was indicated in a statement by Kim Westbrook Strach, executive director of the State Board of Elections.

Strach underlined that national financing laws for electoral campaigns are expressed in US dollars and based on local laws.

The tendency to donations in cryptocurrencies at the electoral level expands in the United States, because they are already a reality in New Hampshire, for example. The state of Colorado is studying a proposal in this sense from the Secretary of State.

Despite the measure that prohibits donations in digital assets for political campaigns, the crypto market and related transactions continue to increase in the country.
