Nintendo will not release a new version of the Switch

In the presentation of the financial results, the Asian company stressed that this does not fit into the plans for 2020

Nintendo does not plan to launch any new Switch video console on the market this year, as confirmed by the company in the presentation of the financial results.

The company put Switch on sale in March 2017 and two and a half years later, it was accompanied by a portable, non-convertible version, Switch Lite.

The president and CEO of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, has detailed in a meeting with investors, on the occasion of the financial results of the third fiscal quarter, that “we have no plans to launch a new model of Nintendo Switch during 2020.”

Since its launch in March 2017, Switch has reached 52.48 million units sold worldwide, which means that it has already exceeded the sales that SNES achieved since its launch in 1990.

The original Nintendo Switch was launched in 2017 and it wasn’t until last year that it received its first significant updates. The classic Switch gained autonomy thanks to a better battery and greater efficiency of the new Nvidia chip. On the other hand, the company also launched the Switch Lite, a smaller and more portable version, without a dock to connect to the television and without Joy with detachable. Still, it helped the company improve sales that had stagnated a bit.
