Naples will have its own cryptocurrency

This measure is carried out in order to seek greater autonomy from the central government of Italy

The mayor of Naples, in Italy, Luigi de Magistris, announced that the region will implement the use of its own cryptocurrency in the coming months.

This measure was implemented for the city to achieve a little more autonomy from the central government, which in the opinion of the mayor has been dedicated to benefit only the northern region.

De Magistris only explained that said digital currency will be different from the Euro, but did not specify any other aspect about its release or about which blockchain it is based on.

This is possible thanks to the work with a voluntary study group that deals with the subject of cryptocurrencies and their underlying technology. This team has emphasized the possible applications of a blockchain network to strengthen transparency, according to the website of the Government of Naples.

With this measure the Italian city joins many other regions such as Russia, Iran, Venezuela or Dubai, which have implemented their own cryptocurrency.
