Mosque of the United Kingdom accepts donations in cryptocurrencies

Donations are received through the mosque site until the end of Ramadan in June

The Shackelewell Lane mosque, located in the United Kingdom, is the first one of Turkish origin to accept donations in cryptocurrencies. The resources are received through the site of the mosque until June 14, when Ramadan ends.

Asked about possible discrepancies between the use of digital currency and religion, representatives of the mosque indicated that they evaluated the various aspects and opted to give flexibility to this technology and selected the most practical route.

The Shackelewell Lane mosque is receiving bitcoin and ether donations from a large audience, from all corners of the world, Erkin Guney, chairman of the board of directors, told reporters.

They have the advice of the blockchain startup Combo Innovation, based in London. The company specializes in Islamic financial markets. Gurmit Singh, CEO of the startup, suggested the use of digital currency as part of Zakat, which is an amount based on 2.5% of the wealth obtained that every Muslim must deliver to the charity once a year during the celebration of Ramadan.

For the tranquility of the members of this community, in the mosque site they can see the cryptographic addresses and QR codes of the BTC and ETH portfolios where the funds are deposited or transferred.
