Minister of Defense of the UK fired over Huawei leaks

Gavin Williamson was fired by Prime Minister Theresa May due to leaking data about the National Security Council that he gave to the press

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May decided to fire the Minister of Defense, Gavin Williamson, for leaks of information.

May accuses him of being responsible for leaking information to the press about the deliberations of the National Security Council about the role of Huawei in the deployment of the 5G network.

The Prime Minister had initially authorized the incorporation of the Chinese technological giant to participate in the deployment of 5G technology in the United Kingdom, despite the numerous warnings that the United States has been making.

In substitution of Williamson, the current Minister for International Development, Penny Mordaunt will occupy the position provisionally.

The National Security Council had agreed last 23rd of April to give green light, in a limited way, to the participation of Huawei in the construction of parts of the new communication network, such as antennas or other non-main infrastructures.

The Ministers of the Interior Sajid Javid, of Foreign Affairs Jeremy Hunt and Williamson had expressed to the Prime Minister their objections to the decision, according to several British media.
