Microsoft announces the availability of Windows Virtual Desktop

The tech giant also recalled the end of the support service for Windows 7 in January 2020

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Windows Virtual Desktop, a new service that allows Windows desktops and applications to be deployed to Azure in minutes.

Windows Virtual Desktop is a comprehensive desktop and application virtualization from Microsoft that is now available worldwide for Windows, Android, Mac, iOS and HTML 5.

It offers simplified management, Windows 10 multisession experience, optimizations for Office 365 ProPlus and support for Windows Server desktops and applications Remote Desktop Services (RDS), as the company reports in a statement.

End of support for Windows 7

The technology company recalled in its announcement the end of support for Windows 7 will be in January 2020, although Microsoft understands that some customers will need to demand support for applications inherited from Windows 7 while migrating to Windows 10.

Therefore, with Windows Virtual Desktop users can virtualize their Windows 7 desktops and have free extended security updates (ESUs) until January 2023.

In addition, Microsoft has launched Desktop App Assure, a program that helps companies in their process of migrating to Windows 10 and assists them with application compatibility.

On the other hand, Microsoft has invested in the Office experience in a virtualized environment with native improvements, as well as with the acquisition of FSLogix.
