Mexico will ratify trade agreement with Canada and the United States

The Mexican Senate plans to ratify the trade agreement with Canada and the United States on Wednesday, which will generate greater confidence in investors. The agreement will have a duration of 16 years extendable

Mexico seeks to open up to new challenges, a greater dynamism of its economy and the attraction of foreign investors through the ratification of the trade agreement with the United States and Canada, known as T-MEC.

The Mexican Senate selected this Wednesday, June 19, as the date for the ratification of the agreement, as informed by the president of the Political Coordination Board of that chamber, Ricardo Monreal, on Saturday.

The ratification of the treaty includes talks with congressmen from the United States and Canada. It is important to highlight that this agreement will have a validity of 16 years, extendable. The decision comes amid a US-Mexico immigration crisis, in addition to the suspension of duties that Donald Trump had planned to apply to Mexican products.

In the words of Monreal: “Next Wednesday we will try to endorse it unanimously in the Senate and we hope that day will already be valid in Mexico and we will wait for the results of the other congresses so that it can be applied in the three countries.”

The extraordinary period of the Mexican Senate begins on Tuesday 18th to give continuity to the opinion in commissions unanimously approved on Friday. “With the treaty, Mexico remains immersed in international trade dynamics and ensures its participation in regional and global production chains,” Monreal told the press.

The legislator assures that the T-MEC will provide strength to the Mexican economy, in addition to recovering the level of income and capturing the confidence of foreign investors.
