Mexico sets the highest salary increase for the last 25 years

The government of López Obrador announced that from January 1st 2019 workers will go from receiving $ 4.39 per day to 5.11

This week, the Mexican government announced from January 1st the workers will have an increase in the minimum wage that will go from $ 4.39 per day to 5.11.

On the other hand, the new management of Andrés Manuel López Obrador created a wage economic zone on the northern border where the minimum wage will be $ 8.79 in the first 25 kilometers from the fence with the United States.

“It is an act of political maturity, responsibility, conciliation, agreement, an act that is trustworthy to continue to improve the economic, labor and social conditions of our country”, said the Mexican president.

López Obrador acknowledged that since 1976, the purchasing power has fallen in the country by 70%, something that has led to the precariousness of work and increased informality.

“Our population is the one that works the most hours a day and at the same time is the one with the least income. In Mexico, the minimum wage is not enough for the minimum”, said the Secretary of Labor, Luisa María Alcalde.

The Government has emphasized that the increase will not have a negative effect on the inflation rate for next year, and that the conditions of Income Tax (ISR) have been committed and monitored.
