The MercadoLibre Latin American buying and selling network announced that it won’t allow the sale of cryptocurrencies through its platform.
This announcement comes after the investment made by PayPal of 750 million dollars within its platform for the development of this area.
Through an official email sent to its users, MercadoLibre formalized that from March 19 it will prohibit its vendors from offering cryptocurrencies and prepaid cards for video games, among others.
According to statistics, only in MercadoLibre Brasil there are more than 5,630 ads related to bitcoins. However, ripple (XRP) is the platform’s most popular cryptocurrency with more than 11,100 ads.
At the moment, it is is not clear why the e-commerce retailer is eliminating ads that relate to digital assets.
