MasterCard acquires the Nets platform

The payment platform reached an agreement to acquire the Danish fintech company for a total of 2,850 million euros

The American credit card company Mastercard has reached an agreement to acquire most of the corporate services of the Danish fintech Nets, including its real-time payment platform and electronic invoicing, for 2,850 million euros.

The transaction, which will be closed in the first half of 2020, is subject to the relevant regulatory authorizations and other customary closing conditions.

“The global opportunity for real-time payments is accelerating,” said Michael Miebach, head of product and innovation at Mastercard, for whom the transaction reinforces Mastercard’s position as a partner for the payment needs of any bank, business or government .

“The transaction increases our flexibility to play an active role in the consolidation of our sector. It also allows us to expand our leadership position as a single payment window for merchants and a strong provider of processing services for banks across Europe,” said Bo Nilsson, CEO of Nets.
