Macri announces “relief measures” for Argentina

The Argentine president said Wednesday that they will apply a new economic strategy that will benefit millions of workers and their families

Argentine President Mauricio Macri announced on Wednesday a package of “relief measures” from which millions of workers and their families will benefit in an effort to mitigate the economic situation in the country, and thus recover support after the blow suffered in the primary elections (PASO) of Sunday.

“The measures I took are because I heard what they told me on Sunday,” the president said in a recorded message sent from Olivos.

As he explained, the measures cover “17 million workers and their families, and all SMEs, which I know are going through a moment of uncertainty.” In this regard, as reported by the Argentine media, he acknowledged that “there are many needs and many urgencies.”

He also emphasizes that he maintains a deep respect “for the Argentines who voted for other alternatives” in the elections. I understand your anger, your tiredness”, he said.

Among the measures announced by the president is an extra income of 2,000 pesos in September and October for workers, given that they will not be forced to pay more taxes, while modifying the income tax so that all employees earn 2,000 pesos more per month until the end of the year.

In the case of officials and members of the Armed Forces, the bonus will be 5,000 pesos. Macri has also announced that it will increase the minimum wage as well as a freeze on the price of gasoline for 90 days.
