López Obrador announces new policies for the industrial sector

The management plan will consist of developing policies to promote the industry, especially textile and footwear sectors

The president of Mexico, Andrés López Obrador, informed on Monday that he will implement a development plan for the promotion of the industry in the country with full emphasis on textile and footwear companies. He anticipated that this plan would include the Secretariats of Economy, Finance and the Tax Administration Service (SAT), among others.

“We are developing a plan, we will even support them with development banks, two activities heavily punished in previous governments (…). Most of the companies in Mexico are micro, small and medium companies and are the ones that generate the most jobs,” said the Mexican president.

Obrador explained that this plan includes 4 axes. The first is aimed at strengthening the family-popular economy; the second one to the promotion and realization of strategic government projects such as the Mayan Train or the development of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec; the third one to support the private sector “which is the responsibility of the private sector and in that support id highlighted what is most important for the national interest”; and the fourth one to the  stimulation of foreign investment.

This program aims to offer alternatives to boost the energy sector, increase oil production and the construction of the Santa Lucia airport, increase foreign trade and self-sufficiency. According to this, Obrador said that this Wednesday will be the second meeting with the industrial sector to carry out a joint plan at national level that benefits this important sector.

Previously, the Government said that until September 30, 335,000 credits of the Microcredit for Wellbeing Program, known as Tandas for Wellbeing, were delivered for a total of 2,120 million pesos.
