Latam is the first airline to incorporate biometric facial recognition

With the implementation of this technology, the airline expects to optimize the service and move to 14 passengers per minute, which represents twice the current manual system

The South American airline Latam Airlines took a step towards new technologies with the implementation of biometric facial recognition. With this they seek to optimize their services to the traveler, from the moment of boarding. This is currently done manually and the airline seeks to reach 14 passengers per minute.

Latam thus becomes the first group of airlines in South America to use the biometric boarding system that makes process faster and increases security for both the company and customers. The system test is carried out at Carrasco International Airport, Uruguay.

According to Javier Macias, general manager of Latam in this country: “… it is essential to promote initiatives like these, which seek to change the way people travel. We are proud to be able to support the Carrasco Airport and the Government of Uruguay in this initiative, and be the first in the region to have this system, which will reduce the boarding process in half of its time.”

Biometrics allows to identify the fingerprint, the recognition of the venous pattern of the finger or facial. It is an innovation that has been used since 2016 in the United States as a pioneer country.

Latam Airlines is going through a period of changes in the commercial field that have led to the suspension of some services on board. However, travel retail programs are maintained, as well as in-flight product management services.
