Lack of agreement between China and the United States could cause further tariff increases

The US president said Tuesday that if an agreement with China is not reached he will simply raise tariffs even more

The arduous commercial battle between China and the United States does not envision favorable solutions for the world’s largest economies. The last episode that made clear the intentions of the US were the statements of Donald Trump who warned that if a trade agreement between China is not “I will simply raise tariffs even more”

Amid talks between Washington and Beijing to finalize the first phase of the pact between the two nations, Trump said that in order to reduce the trade war, “China will have to make an agreement that I like. If not, that’s it,” he gave it to know in full conversation between both powers to seal a “first phase” of the pact and add uncertainty, since the date and place where the signature would be registered remain unknown.

An endless war

Due to the contradictory negotiations and the difficulty that they have presented, it has remained in a constant crossing of declarations to end the commercial war. However, at the beginning of November the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that it had reached an agreement with Washington to phase out the taxes that both parties have been imposing during the dispute.

Paradoxically, days later Trump told the White House press: “They would like to back down, we have not agreed anything. China would like to do something like a reverse, not a complete revocation because they know that I would not agree.”

This successive commercial war already adds to almost two years, having its last rose on September 1st with the entry into force of the 10 to 15% rise in Chinese imports worth 112,000 million dollars and a similar one is expected to occur on December 15, by applying the same increase to the remaining imports taxed at 10%, to reach $ 300,000 million at 15%.
