Kiev accepts crypto payments for edible products

The Bessarabsky market will allow villagers to pay for fruits and vegetables with cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin cash, thanks to an alliance with Paytomat encrypted payment processor

Kiev’s main foodstuffs market, Bessarabsky, has set a milestone in the whole of Ukraine by approving the payment in cryptocurrencies for several items, thanks to the alliance with the encrypted payment processor Paytomat.

Citizens will have an alternative payment system for some fruits and vegetables in bitcoin cash, litecoin, bitcoin, bitcoin gold, ethereum, nano, dash, waves, EOS and NEM.

The measure comes to facilitate the lives of citizens in Kiev, as well as those who go to the city for tourism. People could buy fresh and delicious products and pay with the cryptocurrency of their choice.

The payment procedure consists, as in other areas, in the scanning of QR codes, which will allow the owners of the authorized food stalls to receive the payment in local fiduciary currency after the instant conversion.

The general director of the Bessarabsky market, Nikolay Kovalchuk, has been optimistic about payment in cryptocurrencies, considering that the modality will attract visitors and locals enthusiastic crypto market to the spaces of the emblematic site.

For his part, Alexander Kurin, director of operations of Paytomat in Ukraine, has indicated that it was difficult to convince the market vendors that they would obtain the local currency (hryvnias) once the payment was processed. However, the goal was achieved, with the launch of the project called “Babushka”.
