Johnson signs the historic Brexit agreement

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, signed the Brexit agreement on Friday, where he also stressed that this “proclaims a new chapter” in the history of the European country.

“Today I signed the UK Withdrawal Agreement to leave the European Union on January 31st, honoring the democratic mandate of the British people”, he said through his Twitter account.

In addition, he explained that “the firm is a fantastic moment, which finally makes the result of the 2016 referendum a reality and puts an end to too many years of discussions and divisions,” the British television network BBC reported.

“Now we can move forward with a united country, with a government focused on guaranteeing better public services, greater opportunities and unleashing the potential of every corner of the bright United Kingdom”, he said.

In this regard, the British ‘premier’ stressed that the authorities will seek to “build a new and strong relationship with the EU, as friends and equal sovereigns.”

The agreement had been signed early in the day by the president of the European Commission, Úrsula von der Leyen, and the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, after which he was transferred by train to London.

“Things will inevitably change, but our friendship will remain. We begin a new chapter as partners and allies. I hope we write this new page together”, Michel said on his Twitter account.
