The pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson posted a net profit of $ 15,114 million in the whole of 2019, which is equivalent to a decrease of 1.2% compared to the previous year, the company reported on Wednesday.

The turnover between January and December rose 6%, to 82,059 million dollars. By business segments, the pharmaceutical products division rose 3.6%, to 42,198 million dollars, while the area of ​​medical devices contracted 3.8%, to 25,963 million dollars. Sales of personal consumption products rose 0.3% during 2019, to $ 13,898 million.

“We have achieved a solid growth in sales and profits in 2019, caused by the strength of our pharmaceutical business, the accelerated performance of the medical device division and the improved profitability of the consumer products business,” said the president and CEO of the company, Alex Gorsky.

During 2019, the cost of products sold grew 1.7%, reaching 27,556 million dollars, while sales, marketing and administration expenses decreased 1.6%, to 22,178 million dollars. The research and development (R&D) item rose 5.4%, to 11,355 million dollars.

Between October and December, Johnson & Johnson made a net profit of 4,010 million dollars, 31.8% more than in the fourth quarter of 2018 due to the decrease in atypical financials. At the time, the turnover grew 1.7%, to 20,747 million dollars.
