Italy to introduce new tax on cryptocurrency profits in 2025

The Italian government will introduce in 2025 the bill for a new tax on profits from cryptocurrencies and other private equity assets

In 2025 the Italian government will introduce a bill with a view to applying a new tax on profits from private equity and cryptocurrencies.

The Italian deputy finance minister, Maurizio Leo, reported that the tax on profits from cryptocurrencies will rise from 26% to 42%, which is equivalent to an increase of 61.5 %.

It is important to remember that the current rate applied to bitcoin and other digital assets was approved in 2022, included in the Italian Parliament Budget presented by Giorgia Meloni.

At the moment, investors are processing the announcement. They know that the bill must first be presented as part of the 2025 budget; it must be debated in the committees and put to a vote in both chambers.

If this new tax is approved, the signature of the President of Italy and its publication are required before it can be applied.
