Israel failed to land on the Moon

The Beresheet spaceship had a problem with its engine a few meters from the lunar surface and crashed on landing

Israel failed on becoming the fourth country in the world to land on the Moon just at 149 meters from making history. The spaceship suffered a breakdown in the engine a few meters from reaching a great dream.

Landing on the Moon was not an easy task for world powers such as the United States, Russia or China. So it was hard as well for a small country like Israel. The budget was lower and the ship too.

There is still no definitive report on the accident. It is presumed that the failure was in an inertial motion sensor when the ship was several kilometers from the Moon, specifically about 7.5 kilometers.

The fault in the sensor could have caused the main engine to also have problems. It was there when the headquarter on Earth lost contact with the ship.

The Beresheet ship was part of a private initiative of the Israeli organization SpaceIL. The firm received several private donations from the Israel Space Agency to carry out the mission.

Before the ship crashed, the crew was able to send a selfie 22 kilometers up and in which the Israeli flag was observed with the following message: “Small country, big dreams“.
