Iran considers that the Telegram token threatens national security

Since 2017, the local government has reservations with the application because they detected that the chat was used to send anti-government messages

The government of Iran, according to the newspaper Tehran Times, considers the cryptocurrency developed by Telegram as a threat to national security.

The application was very successful in the population until the end of 2017, when the local government detected that internal chats were being used to send anti-government messages.

The secretary of the Criminal Content Definition Team, Javad Javidnia, suggested that investors not enter into the Telegram digital token business, and that any collaboration with it will be considered an attack to national security.

“One of the most important factors to ban Telegram was the feeling of serious economic threat from their activities, which unfortunately was marginalized and neglected due to the uproar in the country’s political atmosphere,” commented Javidnia.

The Iranian government had expressed its dissatisfaction with the development of such cryptocurrency. In fact, Iranian officials claimed that Gram’s Initial Coin Offer (ICO) could “undermine Iran’s national currency.”
