IoT reaches agriculture

New technologies will allow a more precise and sustainable industry

The IoF2020 project (Internet of Food & Farm 2020), which will take place from July 4th to 7th in Bilbao, is already giving something to talk about. The Spanish city of Almeria leads the project that is based on the application of new technologies to agriculture in order to achieve an efficient communication network that allows collecting and ordering as much data as possible; monitor planting, livestock raising and related activities for safe and sustainable development.

It will be common in the farms and similar areas the use of robots for the milking, drones for the surveillance of the sowings, digital platforms for the monitoring of the products from harvest until the commercial distribution; apps to measure the temperature and freshness of the vegetables.

In addition to deepening competitiveness in this sector, the objective is to provide those involved with the necessary tools for efficient, low-cost, long-term, responsible, healthy and sustainable performance.

Once the agriculture is digitalized, the managers will have more time to look for other markets, diversify their production and increase their performance.
