Instagram introduces a function to disable data collection

The social network owned by Meta implemented a new function that can eliminate information tracking

Meta announced the launch of additional controls in Account Center for Instagram, where it implemented a feature that allows users to disable tracking of their activity and collection of their data from apps and websites.

With this feature, the company seeks to give users greater control over the information they share and their activity, since it will allow them to review which companies share this data with the Meta platform and delete it if they wish.

This will be possible on Instagram thanks to a new functionality called Activity Off-Meta Technologies -Review activity outside of Meta technologies-, which has been available on Facebook for a few months and which can be accessed from the Information Center. social network accounts.

Activity Off-Meta Technologies is a summary of activities that organizations share with the technology firm in relation to the interactions that users. These companies use the tools offered by Meta to collect all the activity related to the accounts of the platforms it offers, as Meta reminds us in its Help section.

On this website, the company also remembers that it uses user activity outside its platforms to display advertisements according to their tastes and preferences, suggest events or products of interest and show new companies and brands, among other purposes.

Thus, with the deployment of this feature also on Instagram, Meta hopes that users will be able to “easily review the companies that share data with Meta, unlink some of them to further personalize the experience or delete the data completely,” as commented in an entry on your blog.

Another new feature that will come to the social network’s Account Center is the function that allows you to transfer Instagram photos and videos to other services, which will make it “much easier to share and save memories.” With this option, for example, users will be able to send photos they have shared through Instagram to a third-party service to create an album and print them.

Finally, Meta has commented that from its Account Center, which launched in January of this year and which unifies all the configuration menus of Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, it is now possible to download the information from these accounts simultaneously.

Until now, the Account Center only allowed data to be downloaded individually, that is, choosing one platform or another. This option, by the way, is maintained for those users who wish to access their information individually.
