IMF reduces growth forecasts for 2019
Trade disputes, brexit and other uncertainties threaten global growth according to the international organism
For 2019, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts greater slowdown than expected and includes a cut in prospects for Latin America.
The IMF updated the report presented in October called “Perspectives of the world economy” and the entity was much more pessimistic, noting that there are risks in the outlook. A growth of 3.5% is projected for the world economy, which is equivalent to 0.2 points below what was previously stated.
Additionally, a global growth of 3.6% is projected for 2020, which implies a cut of 0.1 percentage points below the forecast offered in October. For Latin America, the organization cut its forecasts for this year and for the next by 0.2 percentage points.
The IMF indicated that financial conditions have already been impaired and said: “An escalation of trade tensions beyond what was already incorporated in forecasts remains a key source of risk for forecasts.”
Despite the data provided in this second cut on the forecasts of the world economy, the IMF maintains that the two largest economies in the world, the United States and China remain unchanged and their forecasts remain at 2.5% and 6.2% respectively.
