Huawei receives authorization from London for technological development

The company, which is vetoed by the United States and other countries, will work under restrictions within the United Kingdom in the implementation of 5G technology

The British authorities will allow Huawei’s participation in the development of the country’s 5G network, thus ignoring pressure from Washington, although the Chinese company will be subject to restrictions as it is considered “high risk.”

Following a meeting of the National Security Council of the United Kingdom, chaired by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British authorities decided to set a series of restrictions on the action of suppliers considered to be high risk, among which their exclusion of all key security elements of critical infrastructure, as well as key functions and sensitive parts of the network.

Likewise, these higher risk providers will be excluded from those sensitive geographical locations, such as nuclear power plants or military bases, and their presence will be limited to a maximum of 35% on the periphery of the infrastructure.

“The high-risk providers are those that pose the greatest threat to security and resilience for the United Kingdom’s telecommunications networks,” said the head of Culture, Media and Sports of the United Kingdom, Nicky Morgan.

In this regard, the National Security Council of the United Kingdom said that Huawei “has always been considered a high risk by the Government” for its strategic importance due to its high market share, its Chinese nationality, which, under the laws of the Asian giant, could lead him to act against British interests.
