Huawei develops a liquid lens camera

The new system can change focus plane in milliseconds and provide sharp images

Huawei has developed a new camera system based on the use of a liquid lens, housed in a motorized moving mechanism that moves the lenses in the direction of the optical axis and improves image stabilization.

The integration of the lens allows the camera system to change the focus plane in milliseconds and provide sharp images regardless of the distance of the subject, as the patent explains.

Using this item is especially useful for shooting that requires different approaches, and provides faster autofocus, depth detection, and better image stabilization.

Also, this system can carry out the functions of time-of-flight sensors, used by several smartphones today and requires less space than this type of imaging lens. The liquid chamber patented by Huawei makes use of several parts, among which a stator stands out, a frequent part in induction motors.

The system also makes use of an optical axis limiter and can improve stability and reliability in conditions such as bumps or falls. Although this technology previously existed in other areas of professional photography, it has not been used so far for mobile phone cameras.
