Hackers hide malware in fake Adobe Flash update

Criminals are looking for users to download a Monero miner (XMR) through an alleged Flash installer

Cryptocurrency mining malware is one of the safest ways for computer hackers to attack. Attackers constantly develop alternative methods to distribute malicious code to all types of users, including those who have no idea that their computer’s hardware can be used to mine cryptographic assets.

The innovative mining malware distribution method is presented as a fake update to Adobe Flash Player software. The researchers discovered that hackers have been operating in this way since August and have increased their effectiveness over the past few days.

It is intended that users download a Monero miner (XMR) through a so-called Flash installer. Once installed, the malicious software is programmed to run in the background and mine XMR from the user’s computer.

Installers of the alleged update are promoted through browser pop-ups and use an appearance similar to that of Adobe software to increase the chances of users downloading it.

The researchers suggest that consumers only download software from reliable sources, which will avoid any security problem.
