Hackers attacked the EU communication network

A group of cybercriminals managed to unload thousands of cables by entering the diplomatic communications network of the European Union

In a recent cyber attack, a group of hackers managed to obtain more than 1,000 cables from the diplomatic communications network of the European Union. Alarms were activated in countries such as the United States, Russia, Iran and China, in view of the tensions that these nations are currently experiencing.

According to information published on Wednesday in the New York Times, more than 1,100 cables were hacked a day to the cybersecurity company Area 1. The method used by Internet pirates was compared to those of the People’s Liberation Army of China.

The newspaper reported that the hacked material “includes memoranda of conversations with leaders in Saudi Arabia, Israel and other countries that were shared across the EU.”

Among the disputed talks are those between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Helsinki recently, as well as the discussion between European officials and XI Jinping, Chinese President, last July.

The European Union has not been the only victim of hackers. Other bodies attacked have been the UN, the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), among other organizations.
