The UN Secretary General sent a message to all those who helped raise the 7.5 billion dollars to face the consequences of the pandemic

The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, thanked the contribution of almost 7.5 billion dollars provided by the international community to face the Covid-19 pandemic in developing countries.

Although Guterres explained that this donation will help in the production processes of diagnoses, therapies and vaccines, he also stressed that it will probably take five times that amount to achieve a “path” free of this disease.

The Secretary General warned that “the worst is yet to come” so it is necessary “the largest effort in public health in history” at the international level, since it is probable that the virus affects many countries with poor health systems equipped.

The international community managed to raise some $ 7.5 billion in donations to accelerate research on a vaccine and treatment for Covid-19 at a donor conference organized by the European Commission and in which, however, no world powers have participated. like the United States, Russia, India or Brazil.

The figure was announced by the head of the community executive at the end of the event. However, the project will remain open for the next few weeks to allow new donations to raise total revenue.
