Google has just announced a feature that perhaps thousands of Gmail users have been waiting for years: the ability to change their username. It will allow users to recover old accounts and update their email address without losing their settings.
It’s an opportunity for thousands of users who have wanted to change a name they no longer like, perhaps one chosen in their youth that no longer seems appropriate in the workplace.
The truth is that “Gmail’s recovery feature becomes a real trip down memory lane for millions of users.” This is a recovery system that “uses artificial intelligence to verify ownership of inactive accounts. Google analyzes historical information such as previously used devices, frequent locations, and contacts the user used to communicate with. If you ever logged in from your home computer or your first mobile phone, the system can recognize those patterns and offer personalized verification options.”
How will this new feature work? Users will need to go to the Google account recovery page and enter their old email address. An adaptive questionnaire will then appear to guide the process, adjusting based on the available information.
