A drone will strengthen this year’s security operation of the popular heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air held in early August in the small German town that gives its name to the event, local police reported.
The drone will provide air forces from the festival grounds in Schleswig-Holstein to northern Germany so that they can recognize critical situations at an early stage, police said.
The device will also take photographs of the area where the visitors of the event camp.
This is the first time that the device will support agents in Wacken in this way.
A police spokesman said that test flights had already taken place last year and also indicated that a drone was used in the famous Kieler Woche regatta in June.
The Wacken Open Air 2019 will take place from August 1 to 3.
The small town again expects tens of thousands of heavy metal fans from around the world to celebrate the 30th edition of the festival.
