Germany invests in Artificial Intelligence for leadership

The goal is to become "the world's leading location" for AI research, development and application

The German government announced that it will increase investments in the area of ​​artificial intelligence (AI) until 2025 from 3,000 to 5,000 million euros (from about 3,600 to 6,000 million dollars).

The Cabinet today adopted the continuation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy. The goals are formulated to promote Germany in fields such as research and promotion programs in different areas of society. According to the German Government, the stated political goal is to become “the world’s leading location” for the research, development and application of Artificial Intelligence.

“As much as the pandemic demands of us today, in any case, we must think on the future. It is not about supporting today’s economy, but also competitiveness after the crisis,” the Secretary of State for Digitization, Dorothee Bär told dpa.

Some example are mobility concepts based on artificial intelligence promoted for cities or to connect rural areas, but also projects in the sphere of culture, information and the media. In addition, the automatic detection of deliberately erroneous information, for the identification of stolen and illegally traded cultural property or for the transformation of old handwritten records into readable files in digital formats.

Artificial intelligence can already be found today in several areas, such as self-parking cars, voice assistants and machine learning, but also in purchase suggestions for online stores or in playlists in streaming services, which machines calculate based on previous consumption patterns.
