German companies in Russia reject new sanctions

The companies hope that no new sanctions will be imposed on Moscow in relation to the alleged murder commissioned by a Georgian in Berlin

German companies operating in Russia expect no further sanctions to be imposed on Moscow in relation to the investigation of the alleged murder of Georgian citizens, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin, Matthias Schepp, president of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce (dpa) told dpa ( AHK).

After the case, the German government expelled two Russian diplomats. In turn, Russia announced that it will take similar measures.

Amid these tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin meets today with representatives of German companies in Sochi, on the Black Sea coast.

Although sanctions have already been imposed on Russia due to the conflict with Ukraine over the Crimea, there are areas where cooperation is possible. “Even in the toughest period of the Cold War, German companies proved to be a factor of stability in relations between the two countries,” said Schepp.

New sanctions do not lead to a solution of deep tensions and confrontation,” the businessman added. “President Putin does not meet with businessmen from any other country as regularly and in exclusive conditions as with the German ones,” added Schepp.
