Firefox will offer protection against cryptocurrency mining

The update scheduled for October this year will allow the users to protect themselves from the execution of scripts that perform cryptocurrency mining without authorization

In order to protect against websites that perform cryptocurrency mining, Mozilla is planning an update for October of this year. The new functionality will allow the user protection against the execution of scripts that undermine cryptocurrencies without authorization.

The problem is that some websites use the execution of the client to process instructions and obtain their results remotely without the user’s notice. Action that is not some malware or similar, only a JavaScript code that is downloaded when visit the web page and runs in the user’s browser. The code is placed in the body of the HTML document by the owner of the website intentionally in order to enrich itself.

However, the update raised by the browser will introduce the protection of execution of this type of problems natively in its version Firefox 63. This will be activated by default so the user will not have to worry about activating it. On the other hand, it can be deactivated if the user so wishes from the browser settings.

When Firefox 63 is available, users can block mining scripts in the browser, something important for those who care about privacy and the damage that this type of programs can cause to the hardware.
