Facebook will investigate cryptocurrency technology

David Marcus, who spent four years at the helm of Facebook Messenger, reported that he will leave his position to lead the research that the well-known social network undertook on “blockchain” and cryptocurrencies.

Marcus will aim to find ways in which Facebook can take advantage of this type of technology in its platform, working from “zero”.

“After almost four incredibly rewarding years running Messenger, I decided it was time for me to make a new challenge”, Marcus said in his personal profile. “I’m establishing a small group to explore how to best take advantage of the blockchain through Facebook, starting from scratch”, added.

Facebook Messenger will now be headed by Stan Chudnovsky, who previously served as product manager of the application.
