Facebook tries to rescue the confidence of journalism

The social network will invest 300 million dollars in various projects related to journalism with the purpose of promoting local information

Facebook will continue to fight against fake news, misinformation and poor quality information during the next three years and to achieve this it allocated 300 million to the project. They also have the opportunity and the responsibility to help in the growth and expansion of local media.

Among the announced distributions, a $ 20 million game is included to expand Facebook’s accelerator. This is a pilot project in the company aimed at helping local newsrooms to discover how to improve their success with subscription models.

The company emphasizes the case of The Miami Herald newspaper, which tripled the number of people entering its payment wall. They will also allocate six million dollars for a community plan in the United Kingdom to train community journalists.

In addition, two million dollars will be allocated to Report Of America, a non-profit project that aims to hire a thousand journalists in local newsrooms in the United States for the next five years.

And finally, a million dollars for the American Journalism Project aimed at promoting and sustaining local news organizations through philanthropy.

The projects mentioned above only reach 40 of the 300 million dollars that Facebook seeks to invest in journalism. The next aspirations will be made public throughout the year.
