Facebook is about to launch the news tab

The social network is finalizing details to release its new option to obtain content from the media

Facebook is currently preparing a news tab with American media content that it plans to launch during this year, for which the company is willing to offer contracts of up to three million euros to large media in order to obtain licenses to include their content.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, representatives of the Mark Zuckerberg company would pay up to three million euros a year to large media outlets in the United States for licenses. According to the anonymous source, Facebook has already contacted ABC News, Dow Jones, The Washington Post and Bloomberg.

Facebook’s intentions are to obtain the licenses to offer subscribers a news service, through a new tab with reliable content, which will include only the owners of the articles and excerpts inside.

It is not yet known if any of the media has decided to sign a contract with Facebook but the source has detailed that the contracts would be three years and that the social network plans to launch its news subscriptions this fall.

This payment subscription initiative seems to be a response to the numerous criticisms that the platform has received by absorbing most of the marketing benefits that used to be directed to the media.

Another subscription service that Facebook is developing is streaming videos. According to the Vox media, on Thursday, Facebook launched a new paid subscription service in the United States that offers exclusive video content from  creators such as Tastemade or College Humor.
