European Commission will investigate possible abuse of Qualcomm’s position

The Executive will determine if the company took advantage of its dominant status in the market of radio frequency chips for 5G mobile devices

The European Commission is studying whether the company Qualcomm abused its dominant position in the market of radio frequency chips for mobile devices with 5G technology, representing the third front that the community authorities open against the US manufacturer.

The Community Executive confirmed the news previously announced by Qualcomm in a report that it sent this Wednesday to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the occasion of the presentation of its economic results.

On December 3, the company received a request for information from the Community Executive and is now in the “process of responding” to the European Competition Services.

Brussels, for its part, confirmed the sending of “questionnaires” to the company as part of a “preliminary investigation” around the market for front-end radio frequency chips (RFFE).

It is, therefore, a phase prior to the possible opening of an in-depth investigation that the Community Executive would open if he believes he has sufficient evidence to prove that Qualcomm has violated European Competition rules.
