In this regard, from the established date, “new applicants to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) must demonstrate 1,000 subscribers and, in addition, 8,000 valid watch hours in the last year or 20 million qualifying views on Shorts in the last 90 days.”

The measure doubles the required watch hours and views on Shorts. The limit increases from 4,000 to 8,000 watch hours or from 10 to 20 million views in short format. Creators should know that “the requirement is not retroactive for channels that are already monetized. Current YPP members do not lose their status, although they will have to maintain certain minimums to retain access to the Shorts Creators Pool.”

On the other hand, the company indicated the expansion of YouTube Premium Lite, including in Spain. “The reduced subscription, with limited advertising, opens up an indirect source of income for creators, although it does not compensate for the stricter YPP requirements.”

Key browsing parameters

This information establishes clear parameters such as “time spent per session.” In this sense, YouTube leads the ranking, with almost 20 minutes per session (19’35”), well ahead of the following: X.com (12’19”), Bet.br (11’35”), and Google (10’05”).

(Reference image source: Szabo Viktor on Unsplash)

Regarding the number of page views per session, X.com stands out with 14.13, followed by Instagram with 12.17 and YouTube with 12.14.

The use of AI cannot be ignored. ChatGPT and Gemini are at the forefront, but Wikipedia’s continued presence is also surprising.

Concerning the time users spend connected to these top 20 websites, “YouTube leads the ranking, with almost 20 minutes per session (19:35), well ahead of the following: X.com (12:19), Bet.br (11:35), and Google (10:05).”

Social networks lead internet searches

The report’s data indicates that 93.8 % of users globally connected to social media platforms; “almost the same proportion (93.6 %) as were on instant messaging applications.”

Likewise, 79.3 % connected to web search engines or specific portals; 74.4 % accessed email services and 74.2 % visited shopping-related websites.

As you may recall, in 2020 the Commission sued Meta, “accusing it of violating antitrust law by acquiring potential emerging rivals such as Instagram and WhatsApp to avoid having to compete with them.”

Judge Boasberg dismissed the case after a seven-week trial, where Mark Zuckerberg, owner of the brand, argued that Meta faces strong competition from YouTube and TikTok.

The argument was accepted by the legal expert, who stated that “TikTok and YouTube prevent Meta from monopolizing the social media market.” He also referred to the changes that have occurred in the social media sector since the Commission filed the case, mentioning the generation of content with AI, which weakened the agency’s arguments.

The ruling in favor of Meta is also a victory for Silicon Valley, “as US regulators increasingly seek to curb the power of Big Tech” such as Google, Apple, and Amazon.

According to details published by Bloomberg, the tool can control third-party apps such as Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp without touching the device’s screen.

With this move, the virtual assistant could go from “being a limited resource to becoming a true voice control tool, both in its own apps and in external services.”

How will Siri be able to help users? It is known that “it will be able to request an Uber ride, edit and send a photo, or add a product to the cart in an online store” using spoken commands.

The company relies on two fundamental pillars: Apple Intelligence and the improved App Intents system, aiming for Siri to “not only understand what the user wants, but also who is asking for it and under what circumstances.”

This change will not only affect the iPhone; customers with iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro will also be able to enjoy the functionality. Regarding security, “the company is considering restricting certain functions in banking or health apps to avoid errors that could have critical consequences.”

Furthermore, Apple has said that the rollout of the new version “will be gradual, and not all countries will receive the update at the same time. In the United States, the release is planned for spring 2026, possibly alongside iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, and VisionOS 26.4. This means that most users will have to wait more than a year to experience this transformation.”

The company will implement this measure as part of an effort “to prioritize creativity, authenticity, and quality of monetized content, amid the growing use of artificial intelligence and automated templates that generate videos in batches without significant transformation.”

In short, YouTube will take action against channels that “publish multiple videos with the same format, structure, or message; use third-party content without adding substantial input; mass-produce videos using automated tools, without human creative intervention,” among other things.

If channels violate these parameters, they will be removed from the Partner Program, resulting in the loss of ad revenue, channel memberships, Super Chat, and other monetization tools.

It is important to clarify that YouTube will send a notification “in advance to the affected creators, who will have the opportunity to appeal or adjust their content.”

The central objective of the update, which will take effect on the 15th of this month, is to reduce the platform’s saturation of duplicate content that adds no value, and to ensure the equitable distribution of economic opportunities to “creators who truly offer original and useful content for the audience.”

He had a presence on YouTube and created an online prayer app.

His interaction with the faithful was consolidated thanks to a favorable stance toward the digital environment. A documentary was even produced, broadcast on Disney+ in 2023, showcasing the Pope’s interaction with young people.

In detail, during his term, Francis sought to create a strong digital environment for the Catholic Church. The @Pontifex account, launched by his predecessor Benedict XVI, had already existed on X (Twitter at the time) since 2012. Under Francis, the papal presence on the social network accelerated.

In November 2014, the iOS and Android app, Cick to Pray, was launched, “which allows you to follow the prayer requests the Pope proposes each month and share your intentions and prayers with the rest of the community.”

Another example of the strengthening of the connection between the Church and the faithful was the documentary “Amen. The Pope Responds,” released on April 5, 2023, on Disney+. It was produced by Producciones del Barrio and directed by Jordi Évole and Màrius Sánchez.
The proposal contemplates an age limit, starting at 16 years of age, for access by minors to social media. Although no sanctions are contemplated, platforms will have to ensure compliance with this requirement.

According to the country’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, an announcement was made last September of a possible regulation to limit access by minors to social networks. “Now, the age proposed by the Government is 16 years old; that decision was made on Monday in the Council of Ministers,” the official recently indicated at a press conference in Canberra.

It is estimated that this bill will be brought to Parliament in the next few weeks and will come into force 12 months after its approval. It should be stressed that this law “will not exclude minors under 16 years of age who already have accounts on social networks or those who have parental consent.”

The entity that will be in charge of “publishing regulations so that digital platforms and social networks establish reasonable measures to restrict access to minors” will be the Australian Electronic Safety Commission.

According to information released on Friday, October 4, YouTube will increase the duration of its shorts to three minutes from the 15th, adding two minutes to the current duration.

The platform is committed to offering a better experience to creators of audiovisual content. In addition, it will now “have resources such as templates and the Veo video generator.”

The tools that YouTube will make available to users and creators will allow them to “generate a more immersive narrative.”

Another new feature planned for Veo users at the end of this year is “the generative artificial intelligence model developed by Google DeepMind.”

YouTube is aiming to gain a position in the market, for which it had already redesigned the player, so that “the creators’ content occupies a central place, and also introduced a new ‘Trends’ page, similar to that of WhatsApp, in its mobile app.”

But the changes do not stop there, as the platform will allow content creators to access content from the shorts’ camera to use it in their remixes.

The company has been working on the development of the new “image management technology, taking advantage of AI tools to benefit creators, while protecting their rights and increasing control over their content,” according to a statement.

With the measure, the company reaffirms its commitment to “develop technologies that allow its users to manage the use of their image, voice and other elements, especially with the growing presence of artificial intelligence.”

YouTube has launched within Content ID a tool that “identifies synthetic voices generated by AI, helping creators to automatically detect and manage these contents.” In this way, it continues to work on protecting the image of YouTubers, actors, musicians and other professionals to protect their images.

The company has warned about “the risks of unauthorized access to its content through scraping, a technique that can be used to use the content on the platform to train AI models.”

In this sense, the measures have been reinforced, but it has recognized that creators “need greater control over the use of their content by third parties for the development of AI tools.”
