The Administration led by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is conducting a “comprehensive review” of trade relations between the United States and China, according to US Government Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

“The Biden-Harris Administration and the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) are conducting a comprehensive review of trade policy between the United States and China,” Tai said during a virtual meeting with the Advisory Board of the US Chamber of Central China and with the US-China Business Council to discuss trade issues between the two powers.

The representative of the United States Government recognized the importance for the United States of the commercial relationship with China, and emphasized the importance of a comprehensive strategic assessment to design a resilient trade policy.

Also, Tai reiterated his Office’s commitment to tackle China’s unfair trade policies and off-market practices in the Asian giant that harm American companies and workers.

Trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies intensified during the presidency of Donald Trump with the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on exports worth billions of dollars.

Last June, the Ministry of Commerce of China affirmed that the governments of China and the United States had resumed “normally” their economic and commercial contacts with the confidence of pragmatically resolving the differences between the two powers with the aim of achieve mutual benefit and for the world as a whole.
