Internet access globally continues to grow. Remote communities are now part of the wireless network. And to resolve spectrum congestion, greater efficiency is required. Technology companies are already talking about WiFi 8, which was discussed during CES 2026, held from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.

Although the protocol for this new technology could be approved in mid- to late 2028, companies in the sector are working at an accelerated pace to enter the new world of wireless communications.

Regarding WiFi 8, it is known that the main objective is “to respond to the growing connectivity demands driven by the rise of artificial intelligence and the increase in simultaneously connected devices.”

The goal is to offer more robust, faster wireless connections with optimal responsiveness. “This evolution of the standard includes significant improvements over WiFi 7, which currently allows multi-gigabit speeds, latencies of less than 10 milliseconds, and data loss rates below 0.1 %.”

For its part, WiFi 8 promises at least 25 % more performance under adverse transmission conditions, a proportional reduction in latency, and an equivalent decrease in data loss.

Qualcomm has stated that WiFi 8 is designed to “drive transformative trends such as the expansion of peer-to-peer communications and the growth of services, applications, and devices based on artificial intelligence.”
