In the first three months of 2024, the details of WiFi 7 will be announced, the launch of which is planned for the year that is about to begin, as indicated by the WiFi Alliance.

It is already assumed that it will exceed the speed and bandwidth of the current WiFi 6. However, it will be in a few months when clear details will be available in this regard from the manufacturers of network products and processors involved.

The truth is that it is expected to arrive as a massive solution on the market. In any case, the alliance points out: “WiFi CERTIFIED 7, based on IEEE 802.11be technology, will be available before the end of the first quarter of 2024. WiFi 7 devices are already being deployed, and certification of the standard will facilitate interoperability in the world and will bring advanced Wi-Fi performance into the next era of connected devices.”

Next WiFi 7 update

As expected, wireless communications will see a marked acceleration with the update. It will be a “level where a consumer or company can set up a local wireless network with sufficient features to replace wired networks.”

We cannot forget streaming applications, which demand greater bandwidth; “cloud computing, virtual/augmented reality and remote work.” All of this will have the new IEEE 802.11be standard, which promises very high performance.

Some of the features that WiFi 7 is presumed to offer are:

• Theoretical data transfer speed up to 46 Gbps. A monumental increase compared to WiFi 6’s 9.6 Gbps.
• 320 MHz bandwidth (320/160+160 MHz and 240/160+80 MHz), doubling that of WiFi 6.
• More efficient use of contiguous and non-contiguous spectrum.
• Multiband/multichannel aggregation and operation.
• QAM quadrature amplitude modulation up to 4094 compared to 1024 previously.
• Double the spatial streams from 8 to 16 and improvements to the MIMO function.
• Improved resource allocation in OFDMA.
• Multi-User Resource Unit (MRU) to increase the ability to connect more devices at higher speeds and with fewer interruptions.
• Improvements to multi-link operation (MLO) technology, which adds multiple channels in different frequency bands at the same time, to improve network traffic. Essential for streaming gaming.
• Coordination of multiple access points (AP) in coordinated and joint transmission.
• Improved link adaptation and retransmission protocol, especially in Hybrid Automatic Repeat Requests (HARQ).

Honor has presented in China its new flagship smartphone View40 5G, the first after the brand left Huawei, which works with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000+ processor and integrates a 50 megapixel camera.

The new smartphone features a large OLED panel screen (6.72 inches), with Full HD + resolution (2,676 x 1,236 pixels), HDR10 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It houses a 32 megapixel front camera and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

The View40 5G is powered by MediaTek’s 7-nanometer Dimensity 1000+ processor, and offers an 8GB RAM configuration and 128GB or 256GB internal storage. The 4,000mAh battery is compatible with Huawei’s 66W fast charging system, 50W wireless fast charging and reverse wireless charging. 

The main camera system stands out for its 50-megapixel lens, which is complemented by an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens, as the company said in a statement.

The Honor smartpone works with Android 10 and the MagicUI layer, offers 5G and WiFi 6 connectivity and NFC technology for mobile purchases. At the moment its launch is focused only on the Chinese market, where its price starts at 3,599 yuan (about 450 euros).

Qualcomm has introduced a new 8-series processor for Snapdragon 870 mobile devices, a chip designed for high-end computers as an update to the Snapdragon 865+ model, with an integrated 5G modem.

Snapdragon 870 integrates the Snapdragon X55 5G modem to offer high-end mobile phones 5G capabilities (with a peak speed of up to 7.5Gbps) and support for mmWave and Sub-6Ghz.

This processor also has Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6800 technology, with support for WiFi 6 connectivity and Bluetooth audio, as stated in the statement published on the official website.

Qualcomm has included in this processor Kryo 585 CPU, which improves performance over the Snapdragon 865+ model, up to 3.2 Ghz, and Adreno 650 GPU. It also has the fifth generation of Qualcomm’s artificial intelligence (AI) engine and the processor Hexagon 698 digital signal module with Hexagon Tensor Accelerator technology.

Snapdragon 870 will be integrated into mobiles from the Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO and Xiaomi brands, which will be announced in the first quarter of 2021.

Lenovo has announced the new ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 i with e-ink secondary display, alongside the ThinkBook 13x i, ThinkBook 14p Gen 2, and ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 models, which arrive with 16:10 displays and the latest processors from Intel and AMD.

ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 i is a computer with two screens: an external one with electronic ink with a screen-to-body ratio of 68% and a main one with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, with reduced blue light 16:10 and a screen-to-body ratio of almost 90%.

Connectivity features include Intel Thunderbolt 4 ports, WiFi 6, and a new ThinkBook charging mat, powered by Energysquare’s Power by Contact technology, which is capable of wirelessly recharging your battery (with up to 15 hours of autonomy or up to 24 hours when using the e-ink screen only).

For its part, the 13-inch ThinkBook 13x i is a compact device, with 12.9mm thickness and a weight of less than 1.2kg, to be able to take it anywhere. It works with support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and four Thunderbolt ports.

ThinkBook 13x i and ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 i are built on the Intel Evo platform and with low power 11th generation Intel Core processors, they feature WiFi 6, a high-speed wireless LAN, and a 53-watt-hour battery.
