The network, owned by Meta, published a statement where it talks about the approach of its latest report, in which the “problematic uses” of its use were studied, in order to reprimand The Wall Street Journal for an article published in the accusing the company of promoting Internet addiction.

According to this publication and based on the conclusions obtained by the social network founded by Mark Zuckerberg, one in eight registered users on Facebook assures that the compulsive use of social networks affects their sleep, their work or their social relationships.

“We have been studying well-being for more than a decade and we continue to do so. The suggestion that this work concluded in 2019 could not be further from the truth. This is demonstrated by the various investigations that we have published externally since then and our greatest commitment,” the company said in a statement.

On the other hand, they took the opportunity to accuse the media of “selectively choosing internal company documents to present a story that is simply wrong about how we use the investigation to address an important issue.”

Amazon plans to open a series of large physical stores in the United States that will operate in a similar way to department stores to boost sales of clothing, household goods and electronics from the e-commerce giant founded by Jeff Bezos, they told The Wall Street Journal sources familiar with the situation.

The plan, which would represent a new step for the pioneer of online commerce in the physical retail space, after the opening of bookstores and supermarkets, contemplates that the first Amazon department stores are located in Ohio and California.

The new commercial spaces will have an area of just under 3,000 square meters, smaller than most department stores, which normally occupy about 10,000 square meters, and will offer items from the main consumer brands, with a footprint similar to the formats small businesses that have begun opening commercial stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and other chain stores.

In this sense, the sources consulted by the reference newspaper on Wall Street pointed out that it is not clear which brands Amazon will offer in these stores, although it is expected that the company’s brand products will occupy a prominent place, although they stressed that the plans they are not final yet and could change.

Founded in 1994 as an online bookstore, Amazon has been gaining ground in physical retail through the opening of bookstores, grocery stores, and other physical spaces. In this sense, Amazon acquired the Whole Foods Market supermarket chain in 2017.

The purchase of the messaging platform could be formalized during the month of April, sources familiar with the matter revealed to the Wall Street Journal.

Earlier this week Bloomberg reported on Microsoft’s purchase intentions, but its sources indicated that it was more likely to go public. Now, these conversations are in an advanced state and Discord maintains them exclusively with the American giant.

Discord is specialized in video games but, with the arrival of the pandemic and the surpassing of 140 million users, as the company exposes in a post on its blog, 2020 became an “essential” year for them. Thus, the messaging application expanded its audience to all types of users until today it is defined on its website as “a place to talk.”

According to the news, Microsoft is looking to expand its consumer offerings. Thus, although Discord has a good place in the video games sector within Xbox services, its new model follows in the wake of attempts at expansion within user communities by Microsoft with the unsuccessful purchase of TikTok and Pinterest in the last year.

The initiative comes after institutional investors, corresponding to the top ranks of BNY Mellon’s clientele, insisted on this measure after seeing the significant impact that cryptos have manifested in the financial market on a global scale.

As the Wall Street Journal points out, BNY Mellon is not the first in traditional finance to adopt digital assets. Other companies like Fidelity Investments have also joined the management of cryptocurrencies, due to the impact they have on the traditional world.

According to the report issued by the entity where it announces the new measures, it is specified that BNY Mellon plans to execute its plan through a platform, now in a prototype version, which will also be used to manage traditional holdings such as Treasury bonds and stocks.

However, the old bank has not placed limits on the type of cryptocurrencies it will guard, what is known is that a specialized team of bank executives, led by Mike Demissie, will be in charge of supervising the integration of custody and cryptocurrency management in all the bank’s businesses.
