On Tuesday, August 5, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Zhu Jingyang, and the Foreign Minister of Colombia, Yolanda Villavicencio, signed a new economic cooperation agreement.

The authorities of both nations are committed to strengthening areas such as infrastructure and the social development of vulnerable territories in the South American country.

During the signing, Villavicencio noted that the agreement is part of the Colombian government’s quest to expand international alliances that facilitate the transformation of its country’s development model through the energy, productive, digital, and environmental transitions—areas in which China remains a global leader. This trade relationship will be based on non-reimbursable donations from the Chinese government to Colombia of up to 100 million yuan.

For his part, Ambassador Zhu Jingyang referred to the agreement as “a result of elevating bilateral relations to a strategic partnership,” emphasizing that, “during the 45 years of relations between the two countries, China has maintained its cooperation with Colombia through technical assistance in the form of agricultural machinery, office equipment, photovoltaic panels, bamboo fabrics, and other areas.”
