The platform updated its browser for iOS with one of its most outstanding features: the free VPN, which is already available in early access, but will reach all users in the coming weeks.

This novelty makes Opera “the first browser company to offer an integrated VPN, free, on all platforms”, as the company itself points out on its official blog. This is: Mac, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.

To use this VPN you do not have to pay a subscription or log in. It is a feature built into the browser that protects the user’s network when connected to the Internet. With it, it guarantees anonymity and “secure and fast access to virtual locations around the world.”

Opera announced the launch of its new VPN Pro subscription service, a premium virtual private network (VPN) that can be used without installing any additional apps on Android devices.

This browser was the first to offer an integrated free VPN six years ago, a service that it extended, after six weeks in beta, with the new unlimited subscription and without previous registrations in both the mobile version and the developer version of Opera for Desktop.

This Browser VPN Pro is now available for Android devices and integrated into the browser itself, so users can sync it without creating a separate account or downloading another app.

Once activated, users create a private, encrypted connection between their mobile devices and a remote VPN server, using encryption algorithms. And when it’s running, it hides the user’s physical address, making it difficult to track their online behavior when they’re using the browser.

Because no registration is required prior to use, VPN Pro servers do not store any data about users or their online activity. On the other hand, the company has indicated that the number of locations and servers available is limited, so it only promises to offer protection when browsing through said private network.

Microsoft and Cloudflare have teamed up to develop a new privacy tool, a virtual private network (VPN) that will be integrated into the Edge browser to protect user browsing online.

Microsoft Edge Secure Network is the name of the new VPN that will be integrated into Microsoft’s browser to protect both the device from which the user connects and sensitive data while browsing networks that “are not secure enough”.

This VPN encrypts the connection to offer a secure network even when using a url that begins with ‘HTTP’, as explained on the Microsoft Support page. This prevents malicious hackers from accessing your browsing data and your internet service provider from collecting your browsing data.

Likewise, and as detailed by the company, the new Edge tool generates a virtual IP address that masks the user’s IP and replaces their geolocation with a similar regional address to make tracking difficult.

This tool is being developed by Cloudflare and is currently in the preview phase, as listed on the Microsoft Support page. To use it, you will need to log in with a Microsoft account, and it will offer 1GB of free data every month.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) downloads grew 184% last year, a figure that reflects the growing popularity and consolidation of a tool virtually unknown until five years ago.

VPNs appeared about 25 years ago to protect transfers within corporate environments. Although they began to become popular about five years ago, AtlasVPN points out that it was the need to telework and the threat of cybercrime due to the growing use of the Internet that have ended up consolidating them.

So much so that downloads of these applications from the Apple and Google stores grew by 184 % last year, reaching 785 million, compared to 277 million in 2020, as stated in their latest report.

AtlasVPN’s analysis, focused on 85 countries, indicates that Qatar has the highest adoption of this technology (69.69 %), with two million unique downloads in 2021. The VPN adoption rate relates the volume of discharges with the population of the country.

They are followed by the United Arab Emirates (59.52 %), with 5,886,566 downloads; Singapore (49.14 %), with 2,874,601; and Saudi Arabia (36.65 %), with 12,760,979. Spain is ranked 74th, with an adoption of 6.3 % and 2,945,038 downloads in 2021.
