The authorities of Venezuela and Iran have signed on Monday about twenty agreements “in various areas of development” in the framework of the first visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Caracas, a trip that his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, has described as a “milestone” in the relationship between the two countries.

“The visit (…) Raisi marks a new milestone in a relationship that has been built from the solidarity and cooperation of two peoples, two revolutions and two countries that were born to be brothers. (…) New agreements, projects and investments will emerge that will be mutually beneficial,” said the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, as indicated on his profile on the social network Twitter.

The objective of the meeting, according to Maduro, is to “continue advancing along the path of shared development, cooperation, respect, peace and the well-being of our peoples.” Thus, he has indicated that this visit strengthens the deep ties of brotherhood, within the framework of political, economic, commercial and cultural relations.”

Both countries have reaffirmed their firm opposition in rejection of US “tutelage”, denouncing the arbitrary imposition of unilateral coercive measures against both nations “for the defense of their self-determination.”

Maduro has also awarded the Order Libertadores y Libertadoras de Venezuela to the Iranian leader, maintaining that “the friendship and brotherhood” between the two peoples is “unbreakable.”

For her part, the Iranian first lady, Jamileh Sadat Alamolhoda, was received by the Venezuelan first lady, Cilia Flores, at the Casa Amarilla in Caracas, where they reviewed issues of mutual interest.

Raisi set out on Monday for Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, at the start of his first tour of Latin America, which will also take him to Nicaragua and Cuba, three “friendly” countries with which Tehran hopes to increase its bilateral cooperation on different fronts.
