Microsoft acquired the Clipchamp online video editing program, which allows non-professional users to create videos, and announced its intention to incorporate it into Microsoft 365 tools and its Windows operating system.

Clipchamp is a free online editor, with payment options, that works directly from the browser, and was created in 2013 with the intention of allowing anyone to create stories through videos. This program combines web tools with the graphic power of the equipment itself for its operation.

Now, the company created by Bill Gates reported that the intention of the Clipchamp acquisition is “to empower creators to express themselves with video,” as the US company indicated in a statement. Clipchamp employees will join Microsoft.

Microsoft has defined Clipchamp as “a natural extension” to the cloud productivity features of its Microsoft 365 business, education and general user toolkit. It also indicated that the video editor is “a good match” for its Windows operating system.

The company has promised that future Clipchamp users will have an enhanced experience with “more options, more power, and the same ease of creation.”

Users of the Google Photos mobile application with Android operating system have started to receive the new video editor announced by Google in February, which extends the editing functions and adopts a renewed design.

The new editor comes with more than 30 controls for users who want to modify their videos once they are recorded.

In addition to cropping, stabilizing and rotating – the only functions that were available until now – users will also be able to change the perspective and add filters.

The new video editing features were incorporated into the iOS version of Google Photos in February, but since now they have also begun to reach users of the Android mobile application, as reported by the Android Police portal.

Although the new editor allows applying granular edits (including brightness, contrast, saturation and warmth) and other functions, at the moment it does not include the option to combine clips from different videos into a single montage like other video editors.
