OpenAI and Midjourney will use user data from Tumblr and WordPress to train their generative AI models.

The information was published by the 404 Media platform, where it refers to internal documents to which it had access.

According to Tumblr Product Manager Cycle Gage, the “initial data dump” includes “all public Tumblr post content between 2014 and 2023.” It is assumed that the content will not be publicly visible on the blogs.

In this case, these are private posts on “public blogs, shared posts on deleted or suspended blogs, private responses to content, or posts marked as explicit or inappropriate (NSFW) on Tumblr.”

Midjourney and OpenAI would use data from the platforms to train their generative models for different applications by users.

The cryptocurrency exchange platforms in Peru must provide the Financial Intelligence Unit with the data of the users for security measures.

According to a recent legislative decree of the Peruvian government, user data must be delivered to the agency as a measure to prevent crimes such as money laundering and terrorist financing with cryptocurrencies.

The decree establishes: “Incorporate as obligated subjects to inform the FIU-Peru, in accordance with the provisions of numeral 3.3 of article 3 of Law No. 29038, the Virtual Asset Service Providers (PSAV) that include any physical person or legal entity, domiciled or incorporated in the country, that is not covered in any other of the Recommendations of the International Financial Action Task Force (GAFI)”.

This means that all companies that offer: “exchange between virtual assets and fiat or legal tender currencies; exchange between one or more forms of virtual assets; transfer of virtual assets; custody and/or administration of virtual assets or instruments that allow control over virtual assets and participation and provision of financial services related to an issuer’s offer and/or sale of a virtual asset”.

Exchanges are also required to implement KYC (customer identification) mechanisms in order to keep their data on record.

This regulation also seeks to promote transparency and accountability, which is why it requires online service providers such as Apple, Twitter or LinkedIn to publish the number of users they register in Europe.

In this way, it is capable of adapting the specific risk mitigation measures, as stated in its article 24, which states that these organizations must update this information “at least once every six months” and that it must be public.

For very large online platforms and search engines, ie those with at least 45 million users, the Commission requires that a number be provided, not an estimate.

To comply with this regulation, Apple quantified the number of users in the app store for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS; as well as those who use their Apple Books and Apple Podcast platforms, in all member countries.
