In a recent report from the Armed Services Committee, the US Senate addressed the Secretary of Defense, retired General Lloyd Austin, to request that blockchain technology be tested in supply chain management and other national security applications within the Department of Defense.

The Committee issued the report this July 9 requesting this evidence for the Fiscal Year 2025 Act, pointing out the advantages that said technology can contribute to national security, and mentions specific programs for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Defense in general.

Blockchain technology could “improve US national defense supply chains and economic competitiveness.” In this sense, they highlight its “potential to improve the cryptographic integrity of the defense supply chain, improve data integrity and reduce the risk of manipulation or corruption of certain types of data by close competitors.”

Another key point towards which the use of blockchain can be directed is the creation of “secure, transparent, responsible and auditable data related to supply chains.”

A date of April 1, 2025, was set for the issuance of another report with specific findings in six key areas, such as a pilot research and development program to explore the use of blockchain technology in national security applications, “including security management. supply chain, cybersecurity for critical infrastructure assets and procurement auditability.”
