The What Car? jury — one of the UK’s most prestigious and respected automotive publications and a benchmark for buyers worldwide — praised the Tucson for its exceptional practicality, premium interior quality, efficient driving dynamics, and high resale value.

“If interior space is a priority, the Hyundai TUCSON is an ideal choice. Four tall adults will travel comfortably, and the trunk is truly spacious. The interior quality is also impressive. Furthermore, it’s enjoyable to drive, has very efficient hybrid versions, and a reputation for reliability that inspires confidence,” said Mark Pearson, Used Car Editor at What Car?

“The fact that this attractive family SUV offers such outstanding value when purchased used sealed the deal for the jury,” he added.

Since its launch in 2021, the Tucson has remained one of the UK’s best-selling vehicles and has received numerous international accolades from media outlets such as Top Gear, Auto Express, and Carbuyer.

Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai Motor and Genesis UK, commented: “The TUCSON has proven to be a highly desirable SUV for tens of thousands of new car buyers for years, so it’s no surprise that its attributes are equally valued by those looking for a pre-owned vehicle. What Car? naming it Best Used Family SUV 2025 is further proof of this. It’s a stylish, enjoyable vehicle to drive and offers exceptional value.”

According to Will Hayter, Executive Director of Digital Markets at the Competition and Markets Authority, the company “holds a strategic position in the search and search advertising sector, with over 90 % of searches in the UK conducted on its platform.”

The CMA has the power to intervene and ensure that Google’s search services are “open to effective competition.” Although the ruling does not lead to immediate changes, the regulator can impose fines for non-compliance and has direct enforcement powers.

Since June, potential changes it could require from Google have been outlined, “such as fairer search rankings, easier access to alternative search engines for consumers, and greater control by publishers over how their content is used in AI-generated responses. It is expected to consult on any planned intervention later this year.”

The announcement has put countries such as Spain, Mexico, and Colombia on alert, considering that the measure could affect local gamers.

As the technology company stated, “the verification affects accounts declared as 18 years of age or older and will be required to continue using social features such as voice chat, messages, or game invites without limitations.” For its part, Xbox confirmed in an official statement that the decision has no impact on “games, history, or previous purchases, but those who do not verify their age will see their social use restricted to friends only starting in 2026.”

In the document, Xbox clarifies that the measure “seeks to comply with the UK Online Safety Act, a law that requires mechanisms to protect minors on digital platforms. Verification will be mandatory starting in early 2026, although users can already complete it voluntarily now to avoid future restrictions.”

Among the options for completing age verification, the platform offers several secure options: through an official ID, a bank card, a mobile operator card, or facial recognition. They assure us that this process is encrypted, and the information is not stored or used for other purposes.

Regarding security, Microsoft maintains its recommendation that parents create child or youth accounts from the beginning, given that they “do not require additional verification and can be easily managed from the Xbox Family Settings app.”

The proposal was made by Labour MP Josh MacAlister, who argued that the goal is to “protect children from excessive use of mobile devices and social networks, which are often addictive by design.”

The new regulation called “Safer Phones,” presented last week in the European country, “highlights that social media platforms must exclude teenagers from recommended content algorithms, a measure that aims to limit their exposure to addictive content.”

MacAlister stressed that the bill would raise the minimum age for Internet access from 13 to 16 years, with the requirement of parental approval “so that technology companies can access the data of minors.”

As long as the companies behind social networks cannot use the data of teenagers in their recommendation algorithms, it will be more difficult to show them addictive content.

On the other hand, the independent British communications body Ofcom will monitor the application of user age verification so that minors are not exposed to applications designed to be addictive.

It is important to highlight that the bill “includes prohibiting the use of telephones in educational centers, turning them into mobile phone-free zones to improve the concentration of students.”

On the other hand, it is expected that the country’s authorities will implement “stricter regulations on the design, supply, marketing and use of smartphones for minors under 16 years of age” in favor of the mental health of young people.

According to Ofcom data, “mobile data has experienced an annual increase of between 20 and 30 % in personal consumption.” In daily dynamics, the apps that consume the most data while browsing are: YouTube, with an average of 193 megabytes (MB) per five minutes; Disney+, with 150 MB every five minutes; and AllTrails, with 155 MB for use in the same period of time.

On the other hand, they mention Waze, Hotels.com and Uber, with a consumption of 110 MB, 104 MB and 102 MB, respectively, due to the data they require for “the maps, the real-time transportation network and the way the companies’ servers communicate with the application.”

As for social networks, where users browse more hours a day, Snapchat is mentioned at the top of the list, with a consumption of 101 MB for every five minutes. Then there is Pinterest, which consumes 85 MB every five minutes; Threads with 82 MB for every five minutes; TikTok with 79 MB, Telegram with a consumption of 70 MB, Instagram with 69 MB, Facebook and X with 65 MB and 50 MB each.

It is necessary to take into account that for the calculation of the MB of consumption, each action through the connection is included. That is, “each word, image or video that is viewed through the web browser of a smartphone has its own data footprint, which is measured in megabytes. The same thing happens when posting a photo on Instagram or sending messages via WhatsApp.”

In the case of browsers, the study mentions Safari (default for iOS) as the one that uses the most data, with 56 MB for every five minutes. Microsoft Edge consumes 29 MB and Google Chrome 24 GB every five minutes on average.

Recommendations to optimize and reduce data consumption include deactivating the automatic synchronization of applications, which helps prevent “data from accounts that have been used on other devices from being downloaded to keep applications synchronized.”

In addition, and in the specific case of YouTube videos, it is recommended to view them in lower quality, for example; this is to go from 1,080p to 240p. The user can configure the video quality preferences in advance.

In the case of social networks, it is possible to deactivate automatic downloads and playback of content to reduce data consumption.

Regarding navigation, iOS and Android are known to have a “saving mode in the system settings” that helps limit the amount of data used.

The announcement, published Thursday, October 3, in the Financial Times, states that “the projects called HyNet and East Coast Cluster aim to capture emissions from factories and power plants in the north of England and north Wales and store them on the seabeds of Liverpool Bay and the North Sea, respectively.”

The technology they will apply in this crucial project involves “capturing carbon dioxide as it is produced, compressing it and pumping it underground, sometimes into disused oil and gas deposits, to prevent it from being released into the atmosphere.”

In 2023, the world’s carbon capture capacity was 51 million tonnes, representing 0.14% of global emissions, according to the energy research organization BloombergNEF.

Regarding the United Kingdom, the European nation “emitted 384.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023, according to provisional figures from the Government, and it is not the first time that the country has shown interest in CCS projects.”

The Labour Government’s project is expected to capture between 20 and 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide before 2030, as well as “providing peace of mind and providing certainty to heavy industry in its attempt to decarbonize.”

Coinbase has announced that Osborne will join the company’s Global Advisory Board, which includes other notable political figures such as former U.S. Senator Patrick Toomey, former U.S. Secretary of Defense. UU. Dr. Mark T. Esper and former U.S. Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney.

Osborne brings significant experience in government and international affairs, having served as Chancellor from 2010 to 2016. In addition, he was an advisor to BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, from 2017 to 2021.

In a statement, Osborne said: “There is a tremendous amount of exciting innovation in finance right now. Blockchains are transforming financial markets and online transactions. Coinbase is on the verge of these advances. I look forward to working with the team there as they build a new future in financial services”.

Coinbase has been sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last June for offering unregistered securities. The former chancellor’s experience could prove useful to Coinbase at this time of growing regulatory pressure.

Osborne has held numerous high-level positions since leaving the Government in 2016. He is currently president of the British Museum.

The British Government has assured that its objective is to maintain reasonable access to deposit and withdrawal services and has defended that it does not consider it necessary to undertake a substantial redistribution or the large-scale introduction of additional access points, since the data at a national level suggest that the distribution of access to cash in the country is broadly comprehensive.

However, the UK Treasury has stressed that it is important to ensure that the “reasonable provision” takes into account potential local deficiencies that could have a significant impact, as well as evolving trends and innovations.

Cash maintains an important role in the lives of English citizens (Reference image source: Toa Heftiba, Unsplash)

“While the increasing choice and convenience of digital payments is great, cash has an important and continuing role to play,” said Treasury Economic Secretary Andrew Griffith, stressing that the move will particularly benefit those who living in rural areas, the elderly and people with disabilities.

“That’s why we’re taking steps to protect access to cash by law and making this mean withdrawals free of charge and cash availability within a reasonable distance,” he added.

Thus, Treasury seeks with this statement to ensure that the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will use its powers to maintain the current level of coverage, while acknowledging that needs may differ by location and change over time, while which makes it clear that if a service is retired and a replacement service is needed, it must be implemented before the shutdown occurs.

It also requires the FCA to “take into account” local deficiencies in access to cash and states that the regulator must consider factors such as opening hours and distance to cash access services, as well as the need for assistance in person.

Thus, building on the laws granted through the Financial Services and Markets Act 2023, the FCA will use these new powers to ensure that banks and building societies comply with these standards, and will have the power to fine them if they don’t.

The rebound in growth in Europe’s second-largest economy reflects the 0.1 % expansion in services, as well as 0.7 % in production and 0.3 % in construction.

In monthly data, British GDP grew by 0.5 % in June, after contracting 0.1 % in May and expanding 0.2 % in April.

In June, the services sector grew by 0.2 %, while production and construction grew by 1.8 % and 1.6 %, respectively. It is the first month since October 2022 that all three sectors contributed positively to GDP in the same month.

In this way, unlike the quarterly data, in the month of June the GDP of the United Kingdom stood 0.8 % above the level of February 2020, prior to the pandemic.
