According to this union, the proposal recently presented by Claudia Sheinbaum’s government will help reduce the job insecurity of more than 658,000 digital platform employees.

Sergio Guerrero, UNTA’s general secretary, stressed that the reform of the Federal Labor Law will allow progress towards social coverage for workers and the recognition of their labor rights, social security, and the implementation of legislative improvements, among other benefits.

This type of work is a reality in other countries, where those who work as delivery people or make transfers await their formal inclusion in the laws to obtain the corresponding benefits and protection.

This week, the company took internal communications and engineering systems offline in response to a security breach that would have given an external actor access to internal company databases.

This security breach would be the result of a social engineering attack directed against one of the employees, from whom he would have gained access to his Slack account, the communication service they use internally, and from there to Uber’s internal systems. , as explained in The New York Times.

According to the testimony of two workers, this external actor sent a message to all employees through Slack, which could read: “I announce that I am a hacker and Uber has suffered a data breach.” He accompanied it with screenshots of internal databases he claimed to have compromised, and contacted various security researchers and The New York Times.

The company confirmed via Twitter that they are “responding to a cybersecurity incident.” We are in contact with the police and will post additional updates here as they become available.

The more than 124,000 documents that make up the Uber Files expose the ethically questionable practices of the company that Travis Kalanick ran at the time and that went through courting prime ministers, presidents, billionaires, oligarchs and media moguls.

The leaked documents are dated between 2013 and 2017 and include communications from Kalanick himself with his managers. One of them acknowledges that they behave like “pirates” and in another leaked document says that “we are just fucking illegal.”

There are 40 countries affected by the documents gathered by the British newspaper The Guardian, which has shared them with 180 journalists from 29 countries.

In response, from Uber they pointed out that “we have not made and will not make excuses for past behaviors that are clearly not consistent with our current values. We ask that you judge us for what we have done in the last five years and what we will do in the next years”.

Urbe’s executive director, Dara Khosrowshahi, stressed that this idea had been in the works for some time. But it was postponed as a result of the global pandemic by Covid-19. Initial optimization of the app in the British market is planned.

To increase services, the company plans to manage and integrate its software with different airlines, intercity train and bus operators, including Eurostar Channel Tunnel boards, and car rental companies.

Jamie Heywood, regional general manager of Uber for the United Kingdom, explained that the “new service tries to provide a seamless experience from door to door”

Before the pandemic, 15% of Uber trips were made to airports. With this integration, the firms hope to increase flight reservations, as well as the issuance of tickets for higher-margin trips.

Uber in the search of markets in the United Kingdom

One of the most consolidated markets that Uber has outside the United States is the United Kingdom, which is why it was selected as a pilot for this new modality before definitively implementing it in the rest of the international markets.

The company estimates that with the incorporation of new means of transport, customers will encourage and increase the use of the firm and take advantage of “its extensive network of drivers to move between transit centers. This will also increase the amount of booking commissions.”

According to Heywood, “Uber has been able to book rides, bikes, boat services and scooters on the app for a number of years, so adding trains and coaches is a natural progression.”

Additionally, and by the end of the year, the firm plans to incorporate flights and later, in the future, hotels. “All of this by integrating leading partners to create a door-to-door travel experience,” said Heywood.

The firm’s general manager also admits that all the company’s plans are “a very important growth lever for us in the coming years.” However, it is still unclear to what extent Uber will compete with other online travel booking platforms.
